ART OF STAN WINSTON

Sweet! A new book is in the works entitled The Winston Effect: The Art and History of Stan Winston, written by Cinefex magazine editor Jody Duncan. The hardcover book which will feature sketches, production art, and photographs chronicling Winston's 30 years in the industry on such films as Aliens and The Terminator.

Summer of '86. I'm 11 years old and go see ALIENS in the theater (whoa, 11?? what were my parents thinking?!). The movie was the coolest thing I had ever seen since Star Wars. I remember walking out of the theater and saying to my parents, "I want to do Special FX when I grow up! I want to make ALIEN movies!" I then saw ALIENS two more times in the theater and then watched it hundreds of times on video/dvd. And so began the journey to now where I am doing FX for movies. It all started with seeing Stan Winston's awesome work on ALIENS. I'm so picking up this book.

And in separate semi-related news, in September, Conan: The Ultimate Guide to the World's Most Savage Barbarian, will be released. The book will be written by Roy Thomas and will include over 350 color and b/w illustrations. Thomas was the Conan comic writer during the 70s and 80s.
