L.A. FIRES - UPDATED w/MORE IMAGES

If you've seen the news, you know that LA is burning. We were up in Canyon Country yesterday for a birthday party and saw some of the smoke and flames... scary stuff! Pics are from msnbc.

I called my buddy in Vista just to ask about the fires in relation to that area. From his hillside residence you can look N-W towards Pendelton. I heard also the Wild Life Park was threatened.

We East-Coaster know nothing about the layout of CA and all the news simply says is that there are ALOT of fires.

How safe are you guys wherever you are?

We're safe *knock on wood*
The fires are just north of us; Malibu, Canyon Country, Valencia.... about 10-20 miles away. San Diego, south of us, is about 100 miles away.. plus there's fires to the east. Basically, there's a ring of fire around me right now. I'm not too worried, but some friends & coworkers who live up north are in the thick of it; some had to leave work yesterday just in case. Others took the day off and sat outside hosing their houses down with a water hose as the fires were approaching! Like I mentioned, on sunday we were driving near there and the fire was almost right in your face. FREAKY!!!!! My buddy in San Diego had to evacuate yesterday. So yeah, I think we're ok. *knock on wood again* Man, the skies are wicked looking, tho... acid orange/gray during the day.

Here's a map showing some of the fires:

That map is a big help and its nice to know you're safe. Hearing and seeing stuff on the national news just makes it really hard to understand where the fires are and where they are going.
