Oh, and the Alien on the cover looks to be referenced from the
H.R. Giger Alien Cinemaquette
(neck-down, atleast)

Much better than Alien Ressurection and the two AvP movies !!! How do we get this made into a real movie ?!

That is exceptionally cool.

"Poohburster"

Ha! So many jokes... I'll hold back ;)

I love that you always know when something's been reference to another Alien image. Fun!

Owl enters the scene and looks at the face hugger after it's dropped off of pooh's face. Piglet wants to flush the face hugger down the toilet...Owl says, "I think it's safe to assume it's not a zombie!"

btw, my son (11 years old) watched Alien 3 (starting after the autopsy). He thought it was a comedy and laughed through most of it. At one point he turned to me and said, "Those CG effects are really bad."

When he is older, I will introduce him to ALIEN!

I still skip past the autopsy scene.

Btw, little trivia for ya: there's almost no CG in the movie. Alien 3 is one of (possibly THE) last movie to be done with Optical Effects, pre-Digital era. All the shots with the alien are either a guy-in-suit, animatronic head, or a small rod puppet shot on a blue screen and OPTICALLY composited. There is, however, ONE cg shot... when the cold water is dumped onto the Alien after it leaps out of the molten lead, there's a single shot of the alien's dome cracking... that was CG.

Trivia!
:)

You can also make Alien3 into a drinking game... drink whenever someone says "FUCK".

Jim said...

...er or should I say the CRACKING EFFECT was CG over the guy-in-suit footage.

Andrew Glazebrook said...

What was CG in some of the Alien 3 shots though that used the puppets were the shadows it cast, such as when it was on the ceiling, I think it's those shots that make people think the whole shot of the creature is CGI !!!
I was always confused in Alien 3 why those 3 guys are sent off to plant candles at regular intervals like they're measuring something, what are they meant to be upto ?!

Jim said...

I always wondered about the candles, too. The only thing mentioned in the screenplay is that they were going "foraging" in the tunnels... I guess they needed to light candles to find their way back? It seems like they were putting their candles awfully close to one another... shrug.

From the Screenplay:

INT. CANDLE STORE-ROOM

Prisoner GREGOR is helping Golic, Boggs and Rains load candles into over-sized backpacks.
They are preparing to explore and forage among the abandoned mine shafts beneath the planet's surface.

The green screen alien puppet-on-the-ceiling shots are what he was laughing at...

Andrew Glazebrook said...

Jim in that scene with the candles the coloured guy says he's trying to work out the size of the compartment, almost like they're using the candles to measure the areas !!!

Jim said...

That's great, Allen!
Too funny. :)

Hi Jim,

I did the cover for this as a favour to Giant Hamburger. I'm amazed that you recognised the reference! Good skills!

Did you do the cinemaquette?

Incidentally, if anyone wants to read the full story to their kids, they can find it here:
Alien vs Pooh

Cheers
Ben
